We’ve all been there – laying awake late at night while everyone else is sound asleep. Tossing and turning, trying to get comfortable, but there’s just too much weighing on your mind.
Every time you close your eyes, you see the list of things left undone. You replay the conversation with your husband where you made a snarky comment you wish you could take back. You relive the moment you spoke a little too sharply to your child.
Or maybe it’s not even that deep…
Maybe it’s the dirty dishes sitting in the sink that you know you’ll face tomorrow morning.
Maybe it’s the laundry you forgot to put in the dryer… again.
Or maybe it’s just that nagging feeling of “I’m not doing enough.”
These feelings can drain your joy. They make the day‑to‑day feel daunting. They make you unmotivated. Which leads to getting behind… Which leads to feeling “I’m not doing enough” even more.
You start to dread everything on your to‑do list.
All the responsibilities we carry as moms – or if you aren’t a mom, simply as women – stack up quickly. And then there are the external responsibilities: serving in church, showing hospitality, being involved at your kids school…
Society today is not kind. The world tells us to be “Boss Babes,” that we don’t need a man, that we can do everything ourselves. We live in a culture that pushes us to exceed professionally, make lots of money – maybe even more than the men in our lives.
And as Christians, there’s the unspoken pressure to serve more and say yes to everything. (And maybe pressure isn’t even the right word – because a lot of the time, we genuinely love what we do.)
Being part of all the Bible studies. Serving on all the teams. Being an important part of our local church body.
Don’t misunderstand me. Is it wrong to want to climb the corporate ladder? To make money? To be successful?
No – not at all.
Is it wrong to want to serve? To be involved in Bible studies? To represent your church well?
For the LOVE… no.
But it becomes dangerous when you do all these things… and your peace slowly starts to fade away.
When it becomes an unspoken obligation – something you do for the sake of ______ (insert whatever feeling fits).
We don’t want to admit it, but sometimes it’s for the sake of keeping the same image. Sometimes it’s because we fear that if we don’t do it, it won’t get done right. Sometimes it’s the risk of losing status, changing your lifestyle, or saying “no” and risking letting people down.
Whew… being a woman in today’s world is exhausting.
And I think that’s exactly why we end up carrying so much silently.
We don’t want to rock the boat. We don’t want to seem dramatic. We don’t want to be “too much.”
So we keep pushing through – smiling, serving, showing up – while all the little unspoken things pile up inside.
But here’s the thing…
Just because you don’t say it out loud doesn’t mean it isn’t heavy. It doesn’t mean it isn’t real. And it definitely doesn’t mean God doesn’t see it.
He sees the thoughts that keep you awake. He sees the pressure you feel but never mention. He sees the places where you’re stretched thin and trying your best.
Friend, if you’re carrying things you haven’t said out loud… you’re not the only one.
So many of us walk around with quiet pressure tucked behind our smiles – the undone tasks, the expectations, the fear of not doing enough, the weight of wanting to be everything for everyone.
But here’s the truth I want you to hear today:
You don’t have to pretend you’re fine. You don’t have to hold it all together. You don’t have to carry every unspoken thing by yourself.
God sees the thoughts that keep you awake at night. He sees the heaviness you don’t know how to name. He sees the places where you feel stretched thin and worn down.
And He isn’t disappointed in you. He isn’t shaking His head at your struggle. He isn’t waiting for you to “get it together.”
He meets you right here – in the quiet, hidden places of your heart.
So this week, when the pressure rises… pause. When the mental load feels too loud… breathe. When the “I’m not doing enough” starts whispering again… whisper back:
“Jesus, meet me here.”
Because He will. He always does.
You’re not walking this alone. I’m right here with you. And more importantly… so is He.
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
And a Journaling Prompt to Take With You…
What is one thing I’ve been carrying quietly? What would it look like for me to surrender it and allow Jesus to meet me there?
